Policy Statement

Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with senior management. They ensure that adequate resources, equipment and training are provided so that this policy can be effectively implemented.

Supervisors are responsible for day-to-day safety management at work locations. This includes communicating safe systems of work, checking that staff follow procedures, and reporting any concerns or incidents promptly for investigation.

All employees have a personal responsibility to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must follow instructions, use equipment correctly, wear the appropriate personal protective equipment, attend training and report hazards, near misses and accidents without delay.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

Before undertaking any deep cleaning work, suitable and sufficient risk assessments are carried out to identify potential hazards and determine appropriate control measures. These assessments consider the nature of the premises, access routes, client activities, equipment used, chemicals handled and any vulnerable persons who may be present.

Findings from risk assessments are used to develop safe systems of work and method statements. These cover, for example, safe use of ladders and access equipment, correct manual handling techniques, working around electrical equipment, safe floor cleaning methods and managing slip and trip risks.
