Deep Cleaning Sutton Health and Safety Policy

Deep Cleaning Sutton is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, clients, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our deep cleaning activities. This Health and Safety policy sets out our approach to managing risks, complying with relevant legislation, and promoting a positive safety culture throughout the company.

Policy Statement

The management of Deep Cleaning Sutton recognises its duty to plan, implement and monitor effective health and safety arrangements for all deep cleaning tasks, whether carried out in homes, offices, commercial premises or specialist environments. We will take all reasonably practicable steps to prevent accidents, injuries, work-related ill health and damage to property arising from our operations.

Health and safety is an integral part of our business planning and decision-making. We aim to continually improve our performance by regularly reviewing procedures, learning from experience and adopting best practice within the cleaning industry.

Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with senior management. They ensure that adequate resources, equipment and training are provided so that this policy can be effectively implemented.

Supervisors are responsible for day-to-day safety management at work locations. This includes communicating safe systems of work, checking that staff follow procedures, and reporting any concerns or incidents promptly for investigation.

All employees have a personal responsibility to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must follow instructions, use equipment correctly, wear the appropriate personal protective equipment, attend training and report hazards, near misses and accidents without delay.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

Before undertaking any deep cleaning work, suitable and sufficient risk assessments are carried out to identify potential hazards and determine appropriate control measures. These assessments consider the nature of the premises, access routes, client activities, equipment used, chemicals handled and any vulnerable persons who may be present.

Findings from risk assessments are used to develop safe systems of work and method statements. These cover, for example, safe use of ladders and access equipment, correct manual handling techniques, working around electrical equipment, safe floor cleaning methods and managing slip and trip risks. Staff are briefed on these procedures and are expected to follow them at all times.

Chemical Safety and COSHH

The cleaning products and chemicals used by Deep Cleaning Sutton are selected and managed to minimise risk while providing effective cleaning results. We comply with legal requirements for the control of substances hazardous to health. Safety data is obtained from suppliers and used to carry out specific assessments for the storage, handling, dilution and application of each product.

Staff receive training on chemical labelling, hazard symbols, personal protection, safe dilution ratios, secure storage, spill control and emergency procedures. Chemicals are never decanted into unlabelled containers. Where possible, we choose less hazardous alternatives without compromising cleaning standards.

Personal Protective Equipment

Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided free of charge and is mandatory where indicated by risk assessments. This may include gloves, masks, eye protection, aprons, footwear with slip-resistant soles and other specialist items where necessary.

Staff are responsible for wearing and looking after their equipment. Damaged or defective protective items must be reported immediately so replacements can be issued. Personal protective equipment is regarded as a last line of defence and does not replace the need to eliminate or reduce risks at source.

Manual Handling and Equipment Safety

Many deep cleaning tasks involve lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling equipment and materials. To reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury, staff are trained in safe manual handling techniques and encouraged to use handling aids wherever available. Loads are assessed before moving, and heavier items are shared between team members or moved using trolleys or similar equipment.

All machinery and electrical equipment used in our cleaning operations, such as vacuum cleaners, steam machines and floor scrubbers, is maintained in safe working order. Routine inspections and servicing are carried out, and any defective items are taken out of use until repaired or replaced. Staff are instructed not to interfere with safety guards or attempt unauthorised repairs.

Training, Information and Supervision

Deep Cleaning Sutton provides all necessary health and safety training to ensure that employees are competent to perform their duties safely. Induction training covers general health and safety responsibilities, emergency procedures, reporting requirements and basic safe working methods. Job-specific training addresses equipment use, chemical handling, deep cleaning techniques and site-specific risks.

Refresher training is delivered periodically or after any significant change in work processes, equipment or legislation. Supervisors monitor performance, provide guidance on site and correct unsafe practices at the earliest opportunity.

Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, incidents, near misses and cases of work-related ill health must be reported as soon as possible. Records are maintained and investigated to identify root causes and prevent recurrence. Where required, serious incidents are reported to the relevant enforcing authorities.

Emergency procedures are in place for fire, chemical spills, injuries and other foreseeable events. Staff are briefed on local emergency arrangements at each site, including evacuation routes, assembly points and the location of first aid facilities. Everyone is expected to co-operate fully in drills and actual emergencies.

Consultation and Continuous Improvement

Deep Cleaning Sutton encourages open communication about health and safety matters. Employees are invited to raise concerns, suggest improvements and participate in discussions about workplace risks and control measures. Feedback from clients and site representatives is also welcomed and used to refine our procedures.

This Health and Safety policy is reviewed at regular intervals and whenever there are significant changes in operations, legislation or industry best practice. Updated versions are communicated to all staff so that everyone understands their responsibilities and the standards expected of them.

By working together and following this policy, Deep Cleaning Sutton aims to deliver high quality deep cleaning services while protecting the health, safety and welfare of our workforce, our clients and the wider community.
